README

ALT Linux 4.0 based LTSP5/KDE installer

The bootable ISO9660 image in this directory contains
a system based on ALT Linux 4.0 Desktop with added
LTSP5 server packages and somewhat trimmed package base.

This release should be considered as beta; it does have
some known rough edges, limitations and non-aesthetic
spots as well but does work for us, hence published.

It can already be used at home, office, or in educational
setups since any package of ALT Linux 4.0 branch wealth
is readily available via Synaptic and apt-get.

Known limitations

Presumed setup is: a desktop or server system with two
ethernet cards in case it's not strictly standalone offline
class; there's some preconfiguration which relies on:

* eth0 being setup by you (static IP, DHCP, whatever)

and connected to common LAN or WAN router;

* eth1 is preconfigured with static 192.168.0.1/24 IP/net

and connected to dedicated switch with terminal clients.

The server will do NFS, TFTP and DHCP on that TC network.
You probably don't want it to collide with corporate LAN
but that should not be the case unless the latter's address is
192.168.0.0/24 or anything including that, like 192.168.0.0/16.

In any advanced case you can bring provided and preconfigured
DHCP, TFTP, and if needed even NFS servers down and reconfigure
the system by hand but frankly you could just take ALT Linux 4.0,
apt-get install ltsp5-server-$flavour, read docs here:

http://www.freesource.info/wiki/Dokumentacija/LTSP5 [ru]

and finish the custom configuration yourself without any clashes
(hopefully).

Well, you should know your way around these things anyway then,
so this installer might be just a handy way...
